These engraved jícaras from the village of Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca are the result of a technique passed down through generations of artisans; in our case, they are handcrafted by José Cruz Sanz. The jícara, or dried gourd, comes from the Ciria tree that grows along the Oaxacan coast and is engraved using tools called gubias of varying sharpness, as well as sandpaper and acrylic paint for polishing and decorating. The engraved designs reflect the context of the region, including the coast’s flora and fauna as well as other cultural icons and symbols. Jícaras are commonly used for serving and sipping mezcal or tequila, as a serving bowl for spices and salts, or simply as decor.

DETAILS:

  • Size: Approx. 2.5" x 1.5"
  • Holds approximately 2 - 3 oz
  • Each jicara comes with a palm base
  • Hand Made in Oaxaca, Mexico
  • Due to the artisanal nature of this handmade product no two are alike.
