Madness of Order

The book, Madness of Order, is a work of philosophy, critical theory, cultural studies, and queer theory. It critiques the organization of western economy, language, and desire, and promotes alternative frameworks for a posthumanist theory and practice of selfhood and sociality. The book critically reconceptualizes three philosophical paradigms: marxism, psychoanalysis, and first and foremost, deconstruction. The focus of the book is deconstruction, and its illumination of the fundamental schizophrenia of the chain of signification. Marxism and psychoanalysis are invoked in order to elaborate the central concern of the book: the signifier, and its peculiar and unique relationship both to the processes of production under capitalism and to the logics of gender and sexuality under patriarchy and phallocentrism.
