Never Turn Down Free Calories

In the summer of 2022, Sammy Cooper and her husband Alex uprooted their lives to live out of their backpacks and cover the 2,650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, from Canada to Mexico. With loads of ambition, a fair bit of research, and just enough backpacking experience to give them the courage to attempt it, they set out to discover how far their bodies could carry them. Their choices along the way brought them to unexpected destinations that were both thrilling and terrifying. They encountered engaging characters, challenges that made them question their fortitude, food that ranged from transcendent to (literally) gut-wrenching, and moments of joy they didn’t know they could find in places most would never think to look.
